St+Art India

To continue their ambitious project of creating India’s second public art district in Mahim East (after Lodhi Art District in Delhi), Start India Foundation invited international street artists to build further in Nov 2018 to Jan 2019.
The location is a gateway into Dharavi - which despite being a culturally and economically dynamic space is still viewed only as Asia's largest slum. Their intent behind doing the project in Mahim was to bring people to the region and spend time there to experience its true nature.
I was assigned to document the arrival of the giant murals that now occupy the sides of buildings located in Sahu Nagar. The photos represent the making of the artworks, the daily life and culture surrounding the area, portraits of artists at work and the final reveal of walls.
